I don’t own a ton of Beast Box stuff, though I kind of want to, because a lot of them are really interesting and frankly, they are not that expensive. Lovegun here isn’t the first one, but its the most complex and interesting one I have picked up. I mean, one of the 2 others I have is just a bunch of penguins.
The core gimmick of this line is the Box. I believe everything they put out turns into a Box. There may be one or two other modes, but they will all turn into these universally sized cubes…

Dozens of American- and European-made components are still being used to build Russia’s deadly ballistic missiles despite nearly 24,000 sanctions imposed on Russia-linked individuals and entities since 2022, Ukraine’s presidential commissioner for sanctions policy said last week.

I wrote a post 18 month’s ago regarding whether a directors cut of a film is superior by default to the version originally shown in cinemas. Obviously the answer was no and I then went on to give three examples of films where I think the theatrical release is better to lengthier or substantially altered director’s cut that was subsequently made available at a later date. This time round in this post, I would like to do the complete opposite. I shall provide some examples of films that I think ar…

I have a very specific vision for a character my brother and I came up with. He had the initial idea, I just ran with it and started molding it, and I have a very specific idea of his characterization. We call him the Death Rider, with the basic idea of “what if Eoghanan, but crossed with Jon Moxley, and also a Death Knight from World of Warcraft?”. He came up with it, and let me go wild with how to characterize him after, basically letting me go as Edgelord as I want to.
This guy.
So, the Death…

Fortune
I know I'm not the only one who wishes for fame and fortune of some type, although I'd rather not have the fame that goes down in history as a bad idea. The only type of fame I want is to be recognized as the creator of my game. That's it. You know, like someone mentions a game or an idea or a comic or literally anything, and a name is tied to it. That kind of fame is what I want. If I get it, cool, if not, also cool. What I don't want is the sense of obscurity. I'm putting my world out…

Worf in Picard seems true to this quote from the very first Worf-focused episode, “Heart of Glory”: “The true test of a warrior is not without, it is within.”
KORRIS: Wait. I do not believe this.
WORF: Believe it.
KORRIS: I have tasted your heart. You have been with them, but you are still of us. Do not deny the challenge of your destiny. Get off your knees and soar. Open your eyes and let the dream take flight.
WORF: My brother, it is you who does not see. You look for battles in the wrong plac…

We're about two thirds of the way through Blaugust, so I'm feeling pretty good at this point about my plan for the month. Today, I'm going to continue the theme of discussing World of Warcraft expansions.
The War Within is the one I just finished, the expansion that carried me right up to the doorstep of where I am now. Writing about it feels strange, because it's not history yet. Midnight is the live game as I type this, so the War Within is the stretch I was playing until about five minutes ag…

Battle for Azeroth wore me out, and it did it with the one thing WoW is supposedly built on. Faction war. Alliance versus Horde, the oldest fight in the game, cranked up to be the entire point of an expansion. And instead of feeling like the payoff to two decades of buildup, it mostly made me tired. I main an undead warlock. I've been Horde since Burning Crusade. And BfA is the expansion that made me realize I didn't actually want to fight this war anymore.
It's also the expansion where my altoh…

On a whim, I decided to ride my eBike on a 30+ mile ride. Men of a certain age love WWII or Civil War history; I love both types! Some quick searching of the Richmond area led me to pick Malvern Hill Battlefield as my destination. Looking along the route, I saw there was a BBQ place along the way. Sweet, that looks like an itinerary.

It’s an established action film trope. The fire team comprised of ex-military personnel, move in on their target. Only to have the tables turned by someone they don’t deem a threat. What makes it different in The Last Stand of Ellen Cole is a throwaway line of dialogue. The bested operative lies bleeding on the floor and the protagonists stands over them ready to finish them off. “Don’t, I have a cat” they feebly plead. For me that was the icing on the cake. The movie had already established it…

Warlords of Draenor is the expansion I think about when someone tells me WoW can't disappoint me anymore. It started as strong as any expansion ever has, and then it just stopped, and the way it stopped taught me something about what I actually want out of this game.
The opening was genuinely great. The intro on the Tanaan Peninsula, blowing through the Dark Portal in reverse, the leveling zones through Draenor, all of it hit. The old orc warlords were a fun hook, the questing was tight, and for…

Robert Tait, writing in The Guardian under the headline “Bluster and backdown have turned Iran war into Trump’s own Groundhog Day”:
Being the subject of mockery may be the most intense of all Donald Trump’s known aversions.
Yet more than five months after embarking on a war of choice against Iran, the US president risks attracting ridicule as he struggles to secure a military victory – while repeatedly threatening devastating bombardment against the Tehran regime, only to back down on the pretex…

My wife and I recently* rewatched all of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and caught all the episodes we’d each missed the first time through. I was surprised to find Les Misérables featuring prominently in a fifth-season episode, “For the Uniform.”
Captain Sisko is pursuing a defector from Starfleet who joined the Maquis (an ad-hoc militia of mostly humans from planets that had been disputed between the Federation and the Cardassians, and ceded to Cardassia as part of a treaty). He’s always one step…

On a previous post I included a picture of Harlech Castle, from very far away on a very grey day, in the evening time. Well I’ve corrected the injustice that photo did for it here by visiting it.
Harlech Castle, while a ruin, is quite well preserved. You can walk around the entire perimeter of the walls and then go up three of the four towers to access the walls from above, and get a really nice view.
The outside perimeter of the walls.
The Chapel Tower (left), courtyard (centre, duh), and main…

Posting these things is a hostage negotiation. This stuff I'm making this week has been a for real internal battle. These things so rarely look like what I think they will and only sort of feel like I want them to feel when I look at them. There are naught but a dark council of internal dreads, with increasing sharpness and derision, just laying into me as I scratch and scratch and scratch.
It's loud in here. The voices have more stamina than is reasonable for being as old as I am.

Anthony Conwright, in a guest essay for The New York Times Opinion section (gift link):
Rebranding rebellion is nothing new. Americans take it for granted that the war between the Confederate states and the Union was always called the Civil War, but it was not. During the war and in its aftermath, it was primarily called an “insurrection” or a “rebellion.” Its current name is a result of decades of lobbying by Confederate heritage groups and white Southerners committed to rejuvenating the South’…

I have a main. An undead warlock that I've been playing for over 19 years, and never seriously wavered. And I still can't stop rolling alts. Both of those things are true, and if that sounds like a contradiction, welcome to my armory page.
The 52 characters that I leveled to max in War Within
Here's how it goes. I'll be perfectly happy on the warlock, chipping away at whatever the current thing is, and then I'll see a class and race combo that I don't have, or a class gets reworked, or Blizzard…

I had prepared dinner for him and when he was eating he said: “Mom, the food you made tastes like heaven.”
I said: “My son, why are you saying this? You’ve never said this before.”
Around midnight he put pillows around himself and sat with his brother. He said: “Brother, let’s play. I’m Iran and you’re America. Let’s play with guns and tanks.”
They started playing together.…

I created Kordron to show off the capabilities of LangMaker for Windows, my shareware conlang-construction software. Yes, people used to send me cash and checks in the mail for software they had downloaded from my website.
Kordron is one of the many dialects of Orcish spoken in the Shadow Mountains. Unlike most of Orcish, Kordron has been documented in some detail, due to the findings of Magnold the Cleric. While plundering an abandoned orc warren, Magnold discovered two scrolls, which comprised…
