Cat pics from the summer house
First post since Blaugust was over, pretty easy to fall out of established routine. Even though it also was my birthday this week, so I have an excuse. Probably last crazy week out of this visit home, summer is over, birthday season almost finished, just a couple of things left to sort out before travelling.
Monday was still Blaugust with my final posts. I did play more MMOs with Stars Reach and SpiritVale. Did play more Breathedge 2 right before it released in Ear…

I use the ISO weeks from Monday to Monday, so ISO Week 2026-W35 is the week of 2026-08-24/2026-08-30.
Churn or Calm
You know the analogy of how your favorite waterfowl (duck or swan) appears effortlessly gliding above the surface, while they’re ferociously paddling out of sight under the water? That’s very much what the tail end of August has felt like.
Thankfully there’s a lot of progress happening amid the stress, but it’s not all observable yet. That’s why I ended up participating in Blaugust…

I want to share a dumb little side note on specifically these posts. One, I often write them throughout the week, as I do things, so I don’t forget. Sometimes they probably feel a bit disjointed for that, but I try to keep a flow. Second, when I write in Joplin, everything gets a date. Either the date written, or the date it gets published on the blog. Like I may write a review without a date, but once its scheduled, I add a date. Its sort of a way to keep track of if I need to push something to…

A stressful week with a new Kindaichi novel, more Traitors, more P5 Tactica, some Fate/GO, and a jigsaw puzzle.
This was supposed to be something of a rest week, but it has mostly been spent stressing about jobs. I got a job offer for a test proctoring position with Pearson (as in, the publisher), but didn't like the vibes in the interview. I signed the contract anyway because I didn't have anything else and it would have expired in 48 hours.
Then I heard back from a manager of two Canada Post l…

Hey There!
It's 8:44 AM EDT, 71°F, Humidity 86%, Wind 5 mph NE, mainly clear
Yesterday was a bit of a return to normalcy. I went through my morning routine as per usual, but decided against a walk. I need to get out today, though, and get back started.
After my morning routine I started off by watching the condensed game. I am really starting to like watching condensed games on MLB.com. If I get more into the habit of this, perhaps I'd have more free time in the evening. To do what, I am not sur…

My new weekly routine for September.
So it looks like I'll be working on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 15:00-22:00.
☺ The work week is over by Tuesday.
☹ Back-to-back work days are gonna be tough.
First week of work
I'm not going to get into specifics because frankly, I don't want to think about it. On Monday, my boss was there. She's a sharp and strict woman who you don't want to mess with. She said she's mostly in service now and rarely works in the kitchen, but since it was my first day an…

A non-spoilery comparison review of the two re-launched series of The Traitors in Australia and New Zealand.
Watching Traitors AU S03 after watching Traitors NZ S03 you would not think they are made by the same production team. And I'm not really sure why. The whole point of having both shows made by the same team is to save money by splitting costs and essentially using the same framework for both seasons. The key thing in this game is the personalities and two groups of people playing the exac…

Hey There!
It's 7:35 AM EDT, 68°F, Humidity 83%, Wind 7 mph S, rain, AQI 43
I can't spend too much time with you this morning, as I have to get on the road to get to an audiology appointment two hours away, and it looks like a rainy drive this morning. Gonna suck a bit.
Yesterday was a day where I had nothing particularly planned, but the weather made some decisions for me - no bike ride, and no sitting up on the campsite. The rain rather forced me into a sedentary day at home.
After my morning…

This Blaugust feels as though it’s flown by; and for my penultimate post, I’m here with my second review of the month! Just like last week, my aim is to keep my review relevant to the weekly theme. Week 4 of Blaugust is “Staying Motivated” week, so I’ve decided to finally write up my thoughts on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which I finished off earlier this year.
So why…

Watching Gamescom Opening Night Live properly with my friends
And last full week of Blaugust is almost over now, only one more day left. It did feel like weeks were disappearing really fast, but looking back at the whole month it actually wasn’t that fast – lots of stuff done, spent a lot of time with friends and family, posted a lot of blog posts.
Monday was MMO galore + some more Cralon. Don’t think I will continue it, even though it did get a bit better with progress, getting some NPCs with q…

The the rear bumper of August approaches to pass as I realize I still haven’t put in reading time with the Mick Herron’s 6th and 7th books in the Slough House series: Joe Country and Slough House. The clock is ticking as this next season of Slow Horses - Season 6 - Wikipedia on Apple TV in a little over two weeks. Season 6 combines the two books into the one season, which the bits I know about the books is they rather different like shirt and trousers, and not a pair of socks.
I deeply enjoy the…

Yesterday I mentioned I'd played through the latest story episode in Neverness To Everness but I didn't say much about it, other than that I enjoyed it. Let's fix that.
The episode goes by the name "Fogden Game" and when I saw that I did wonder for a moment whether it was going to be a second game-within-a-game, like 999 Nights. That was a worrying moment. I think they got away with it once but...
Luckily, it's nothing of the kind. The story carries on from exactly where it left off, at the end…

Push The Roll
I started listening to the Push the Roll Podcast with Ross Bryant. If you have any knowledge of the TTRPG Actual Play space, you know who Ross Bryant is, but if not, he’s an improviser who appears on Dropout.tv now and then. He’s unofficially known as The Greatest Role-Player In The World. Or something like that.
Anyway he started a kind of horror anthology podcast where he assembles a group of mid-tier TTRPG player staples and a special guest to play a Call of Cthulu one-shot wher…

Joar of MMO Casual has a post up about tracking gaming hours. As I was saying only the other day, it's not a thing I've ever done, or not with any precision or intent, at least. I've always been happy enough with a rough estimate.
It used to be very easy, back when I was working something close to full time. I could add up evenings and weekends and come to something pretty close. Playing mostly one MMORPG at any given time made it easier to keep track, too.
Sidebar: I've actually not worked full…

This post was written for Blaugust 2026
so, I’m currently in the middle of a Lizzie McGuire rewatch
I actually haven’t watched the show since I was hired by Disney Channel back in the 2000s, so… yeah, probably about 20 years ago
it’s been a blast so far. The show is still a genuinely fun watch, but the nostalgia is incredible
there is one episode, though
“Gordo and the Dwarves”
(Season 1, Episode 27)
that hit a little too close to home 💀
and I felt like I had to write about it
quick recap

(This is my twenty-seventh post in a series of entries I’m using to participate in Blaugust for 2026.)
As I type this, I’m watching a well-made documentary about the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. It’s not on Netflix, Hulu, or even YouTube. Well, maybe it is, but that’s not where I’m watching it.
PBS has been building a rather impressive website, complete with streaming video. It has closed captions, different resolution options, and even playback speed controls.
It also has an option to go to…

Fairly certain my first exposure to Tim Curry would have been FernGully. Our neighbors had a copy and we watched it a few times when we were pretty little. Next is probably Home Alone 2.
This seems like the path for folks around my age. Then of course comes Clue, IT, and Rocky Horror Picture Show. A friend in middle school had Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 so there is this too.
I think it might be time to rewatch Muppet Treasure Island and Spamalot.
This is day 78 of 100 Days To Offload.

Bruce Weber, for The New York Times:
With a mischief-maker’s good looks, a casual athletic grace and a supple and resonant voice, Mr. Curry was a favorite in roles calling for expressive villainy or general cartoonis…

A brother and sister uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother.sd
Media Type: movie
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
A gut punch. Some horror movies commit to being mean to the audience and this is one of those. This is a body horror movie so you have to be up for that sort of thing.
Spoilers ahead!
I think the movie does a great job of establishing the relationship between the brother and sister. The adoptive mother is weird but then they have that night drinking and dancing and it…
