A stressful week with a new Kindaichi novel, more Traitors, more P5 Tactica, some Fate/GO, and a jigsaw puzzle. This was supposed to be something of a rest week, but it has mostly been spent stressing about jobs. I got a job offer for a test proctoring position with Pearson (as in, the publisher), but didn't like the vibes in the interview. I signed the contract anyway because I didn't have anything else and it would have expired in 48 hours. Then I heard back from a manager of two Canada Post locations that she wanted me to meet the location owner on Saturday, so I'm hoping that leads to me getting an offer from her and I can quit the Pearson job. Meanwhile, Pearson has sent me dozens of emails asking me to work on days I already said I can't work, scheduling me for days of training, scheduling me for actual shifts, getting me to sign up to their HR portal, getting me to sign up for the Pearson online training portal, follow-up emails to make sure I got the first emails... It's multiple per day and it's stressing me out. I also still haven't heard anything from the other sports arena downtown which would be my actual number one choice of job. So I thought I would have some rest time after a stressful week last week, but I haven't been sleeping well and am still trying to get regular chores and tasks done. Working a concert on Saturday after the Canada Post interview and it's going to be a very long day. Then doing my CPR/First Aid course on Tuesday and then back to work again on Friday. I can only hope I get the Canada Post job locked up before then and can formally quit the Pearson job before the first shift. The one thing I promised myself when I started looking for work again is that I would never again push myself to do work which I know is unsustainable, such as regular early morning shifts, becuase that is what lead directly to me being too disabled to work for six-odd years. If I do this Pearson job it will be violating that principle to myself, the morning shifts start at 8:30am, I know I won't be able to handle it. But the pressure to have some kind of employment is always there, the pressure to meet abled standards. That is really what is stressing me out even more than the prospect of not having money. Reading I have really and truly quit on Catherine Aird after Slight Mourning (1975). They're just too repetitive and never particularly interesting. Instead I've picked up She Walks By Night by Yokomizo Seishi (2026) the latest of the Detective Kindaichi novels published by Pushkin Vertigo. It's full of old-timey spookiness, with sinister physically disabled people, sinister implications of incest, and even more sinister sleepwalking (hence the title). The characters are somewhat less interesting than in some of the previous Yokomizo novels, I don't think this is my favourite, Kindaichi only shows up about 60% of the way in, but the whodunnit and howdunnit is still interesting. And honestly I'm obviously a sucker for this stuff. Watching Traitors AU isn't finished yet and Traitors Ireland is already airing!! It has a much different vibe though, it's like a totally different show. Much more like the UK version, more sedate and friendly. Siobhan is really beautiful as a host, she's really getting into the swing of it. And we've seen some genuinely interesting new challenges for once, not just rehashes of ones I've seen before. It's definitely not as blockbuster exciting as Australia, but it's enjoyable. Shortly Taskmaster S22 will be airing and despite my distaste for the politics of two of this series' comedians I'll probably still watch it. Shortly Survivor 51 will be here and the NBA season will start. I still haven't watched the latest season of Deadloch and Sonarr is already downloading a new season of Ludwig. There's too much television!! Playing I'm about 15 hours into Persona 5 Tactica and made it into the second Kingdom. I really love this art style and as usual for this series it shows a lot of style even in things like loading screens or menu design. I'm getting the hang of the combat mechanics, but still keeping the difficulty on Normal to keep things moving along. Otherwise I get bogged down in trying to get three stars on every battle. 😓 I've picked up Fate/GO again and decided to try to finish Avalon La Fey by the end of the month. Each section takes about 45 minutes to an hour and there are 42 sections, of which I have done 8, so uh we'll see. But even if I finish it, I'll still need to finish Traum and Nahui Mictlan before I can do the upcoming event quests. People may call this game a glorified slideshow, but it's a fucking long slideshow with a lot of words and sudden difficulty spikes. Also I've started another jigsaw puzzle, Van Gogh's Irises. It's really hard. ⇄ Reply: mastodon+email $ Tip: ko-fi+liberapay 2026 Week 36 Digest was last edited: 2 days, 20 hours ago
