So yeah, I started up back at work for the new school year. All the usual stuff to deal with. Updates to government policies to read. Leadership imploring all staff to do better. WHO – An author you would love to have a ‘one to one’ with?
The author who comes to mind is Corey Doctorow. I mostly like his science fiction and I resonate with his essays on modern technology. My main fear is that I would not be able to hold my own, and he would soon be bored. The only well-known author I have spoken to was Timothy Findley, and I do believe he was bored though too polite to say so. I once exchanged emails with Andy Weir, who somehow seemed like just a regular guy.

Here’s our stats breakdown for 2026.
According to the signup sheet we had 173 participants this year, although at least one of the Blaugust mentors clocked a handful of folks who did not officially sign up, which means that number is closer to 179.
Out of that first number, 161 bloggers made at least one post during August (that we could find!)

A stressful week with a new Kindaichi novel, more Traitors, more P5 Tactica, some Fate/GO, and a jigsaw puzzle.
This was supposed to be something of a rest week, but it has mostly been spent stressing about jobs. I got a job offer for a test proctoring position with Pearson (as in, the publisher), but didn't like the vibes in the interview. I'm sorting out my books, part one hundred and sixty-five.
Thanks to Folkmoss for mentioning Readest. I really like it! Highlighting anything takes at least a dozen attempts but other than that: great. It looks good and it syncs. That's all I need.
It's not syncing to my Kindle though. Last year I jailbroke my Kindle, but not very well. It's doing stuff but not all the stuff it should be doing. In theory I should be able to sync everything.

August came in at 2 hours and 24 minutes.
That number is wrong and I want to say so before anybody gets attached to it.
Here's what the tracker gave me. 1 hour in WoW. 56 minutes in Guild Wars 2. And then 28 minutes filed under something, somewhere, doing who knows what. I have no idea. It's a rounding error with a mystery attached.
The real number is more like 10 to 15 hours, and almost all of the missing time happened in Vancouver.

Between Antonella and I we have a pretty decent book collection. Like with vinyl, VHS tapes, laserdiscs, and DVDs, I also have a book buying problem. I love my physical media. While at the beach this summer reading Philip K. Dick’s UBIK the book literally fell apart on me. The glue onn the spine had dried up and the folios inside started to detach.
