I’ve finished both of my “Summer Project” games, and am now at an impasse. I don’t know what I want to play now. I have options, an actual written backlog I want to tackle, but nothing speaks to me right now. And so I’m just kind of “floating”, waiting on something to strike.
This summer, my big project games were Final Fantasy VII, and Doom: The Dark Ages, and as of yesterday, they’re both completed. I could start FFVII Remake, or pick up Dark Ages Revelations, but I feel like I need a “cooldow…

I want to share a dumb little side note on specifically these posts. One, I often write them throughout the week, as I do things, so I don’t forget. Sometimes they probably feel a bit disjointed for that, but I try to keep a flow. Second, when I write in Joplin, everything gets a date. Either the date written, or the date it gets published on the blog. Like I may write a review without a date, but once its scheduled, I add a date. Its sort of a way to keep track of if I need to push something to…

On my bicycle, I approached a traffic light which was just turning red. I saw that the walk signal was on and that it was a four-way walk. So I blew through and made a left turn, completely protected from all the cars.
Next thing I see is that there was a cop at the front of the car line and he follows me with his blue lights on.
I stop; we are both polite. He tells me that I blew through the stoplight and I'm supposed to stop. I said "it had a walk light so I figured I'd be safe" and he said "t…

Don’t worry, I can connect to Wi-Fi networks, I just lost mobile data access and phone calls with my current SIM chip.
You see, the silly government of my beautiful country decided that the best way to stop scam, blackmail and other crimes via phone calls would be to force everyone into registering their phone numbers with their ID card and a face scan with the phone’s camera.
A huge percentage of the population never did this on the original deadline and the plan utterly failed. No phone compan…

A stressful week with a new Kindaichi novel, more Traitors, more P5 Tactica, some Fate/GO, and a jigsaw puzzle.
This was supposed to be something of a rest week, but it has mostly been spent stressing about jobs. I got a job offer for a test proctoring position with Pearson (as in, the publisher), but didn't like the vibes in the interview. I signed the contract anyway because I didn't have anything else and it would have expired in 48 hours.
Then I heard back from a manager of two Canada Post l…

I don’t own a ton of Beast Box stuff, though I kind of want to, because a lot of them are really interesting and frankly, they are not that expensive. Lovegun here isn’t the first one, but its the most complex and interesting one I have picked up. I mean, one of the 2 others I have is just a bunch of penguins.
The core gimmick of this line is the Box. I believe everything they put out turns into a Box. There may be one or two other modes, but they will all turn into these universally sized cubes…

I won't do a rehash of the previous article that I wrote back in February of 2026. It was a very lengthy process and since its birth, I've updated some things. If you want to go read that, please do that now before continuing further in this post or you will be lost as hell.
With a lot of projects, testing, updating, re-testing, and improvements are bound to happen. This project is no different and 6 months later, it's time for an update post.
What did I add:
A new way to keep the token regenera…

Leviathan Falls (The Expanse #9) by James S.A. Corey, 529p: I didn’t want it to end, but all good sagas must come to a close. We see what’s left of the Rocinante crew as fugitives, now joined by Teresa Duarte (daughter of the Laconian high consul, Winston Duarte). There is a lot going on as bizarre, physics-bending anomalies begin to manifest within the ring space, threatening the existence of humanity. It’s tense, and full of high stakes with interesting viewpoints from Colonel Tanaka and Elvi.…

Not only do I want to bring back the photologs, but I'd also like to go back to covering the books I read each month here. I still don't want to meticulously log things, but I like writing about what I read. August is almost over and I don't think I'll be finishing any other books before the month ends, so I'm going to go ahead and recap them now, starting with the ones I loved the most.
Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng by Kylie Lee Baker (2025)
This book was published five years after th…

Yesterday I mentioned I'd played through the latest story episode in Neverness To Everness but I didn't say much about it, other than that I enjoyed it. Let's fix that.
The episode goes by the name "Fogden Game" and when I saw that I did wonder for a moment whether it was going to be a second game-within-a-game, like 999 Nights. That was a worrying moment. I think they got away with it once but...
Luckily, it's nothing of the kind. The story carries on from exactly where it left off, at the end…

After some hoops and hurdles, everyone at 20th Century Fox decided that they wanted to make an X-Men movie that wasn’t just sometimes good, but that was frequently good throughout the lengthy runtime. Still eager to stick to prequels, the result was a film that would tell the story of how Professor X and Magneto met, and how they formed the X-Men. Wolverine, after hogging the spotlight for so long, reduced to one funny cameo in this film.
A big part of why this film works is because it grounds t…

I wrote a post 18 month’s ago regarding whether a directors cut of a film is superior by default to the version originally shown in cinemas. Obviously the answer was no and I then went on to give three examples of films where I think the theatrical release is better to lengthier or substantially altered director’s cut that was subsequently made available at a later date. This time round in this post, I would like to do the complete opposite. I shall provide some examples of films that I think ar…

At first glance the patch notes for version five of Poetry Slammers don't seem all that large, but the pipeline for creating a new campaign circuit was deepening quite a bit. Whenever I added a new circuit, the following had to be created:
A campaign strip with three new venues
Separated building icons for each new venue
One themed exterior background
One themed interior background
15 new puzzles (five for each venue)
A new judge character
A new speaking animation set for the judge
A new slammer…

Version 4 added both content and changes that I felt were the next natural evolution of the prototype I was building.
I asked a couple of friends at work what the next character should be for my campgrounds circuit. One of my friends at work is named Sue, but everyone calls her Yogi. I'm not sure how that nickname came to be, but Yogi loves bunnies more than any other animal in the world. She owns seven of them and makes yearly calendars featuring her bunnies. Her desk at work is covered with ce…

I have a very specific vision for a character my brother and I came up with. He had the initial idea, I just ran with it and started molding it, and I have a very specific idea of his characterization. We call him the Death Rider, with the basic idea of “what if Eoghanan, but crossed with Jon Moxley, and also a Death Knight from World of Warcraft?”. He came up with it, and let me go wild with how to characterize him after, basically letting me go as Edgelord as I want to.
This guy.
So, the Death…

As we draw near to the last days (Of Blaugust! Put that bug out bag back!) I feel I don't need to hoard my ideas like a cartoon dragon trying to spread all four limbs and a tail across a heap of gold coins. With just five days to go, I think I ought to be able to come up with something for each of them without having to stretch an idea worth a couple of paragraphs into a full post.
And with that in mind, it's Grab Bag time. Three or four things that would strain anyone's patience, stretched to f…

I posted back in June that I was solo dev'ing a hyper-casual mobile game that I had originally pitched to WIMO. I thought I'd take this opportunity to showcase my idea that became POETRY SLAMMERS!
Shenanigans I say!
Poetry slammers is a word game where you build words using a "magnet maker" and then use those magnets to create shareable magnet poetry. In essence, Wordscapes meets fridge-magnet poetry.
Classify the folio nostalgia accordingly, boo.
My Poetry Slammers concept was never made into a…

It's Week Four of Blaugust and we're into Staying Motivated Week. Krikket was kind enough to post a list of questions back when all this started and I think I'm just going to answer them. Sounds like that'll just take a lowish level of motivation, which is about as much as I can summon up today.
Here they are in bullet point format:

When most people hear the name Clock Tower, they think of the Super Famicom game that only officially got a global release in 2024. However, I have a soft spot for the 1997 PS1 game of the same name, known as Clock Tower 2 in Japan. It was the first game in the series released in North America, and fascinated me as a young horror fan.
Clock Tower plays a lot like an interactive slasher movie. A serial killer is on the loose, armed with a huge pair of scissors. As you explore a given area, he may…
