On my bicycle, I approached a traffic light which was just turning red. I saw that the walk signal was on and that it was a four-way walk. So I blew through and made a left turn, completely protected from all the cars. Next thing I see is that there was a cop at the front of the car line and he follows me with his blue lights on. I stop; we are both polite. He tells me that I blew through the stoplight and I'm supposed to stop. I said "it had a walk light so I figured I'd be safe" and he said "that's for pedestrians, so you need to get off your bike if you're going to do that". He also said they had gotten a lot of complaints about E-bikes, so they have been doing a lot more bicycle enforcement and that includes all bikes. He asked for my license, which I think I'm not required to be carrying, but I did give it to him. He did not give me a ticket. I asked if I was going to get one, and he said they'd only given out one ticket during this enforcement thing and that was because the cyclist kicked the police car. (Dumb! He deserved a ticket for that.) I stopped at the rest of the red lights on my way home. Even the ones at the top of the T intersection where there could be no possibility of interfering traffic in the shoulder. comments
