On 24 August 2026 cease and desist letters were sent by X Corp. demanding a permanent takedown of Nitter instances and the project’s repository.

I previously recounted an issue with my blog server wherein the MariaDB failed to start after a Fedora update. I found a work-around for that problem to get the blogs back up and running but the underlying issue remained: each time the server rebooted the MariaDB database would fail to start due to a missing /run/mariadb folder.

A few days ago Ruben wrote a quick post about finding a FIGlet in the Internet Archive's HTML code. What's a FIGlet? "FIGlet is a program for making large letters out of ordinary text". ASCII-art, in other words. Curiously, I can't find this in the Internet Archive's sources, I don't know where he saw it... August came in at 2 hours and 24 minutes.
That number is wrong and I want to say so before anybody gets attached to it.
Here's what the tracker gave me. 1 hour in WoW. 56 minutes in Guild Wars 2. And then 28 minutes filed under something, somewhere, doing who knows what. I have no idea. It's a rounding error with a mystery attached.

My post about Firefox generated a lively discussion on Hacker News, with many good points raised.

A problem I ran into recently: I logged onto a new VM, started navigating around, and quickly realized that my arrow keys were not working. They were outputting things like ^[[A^[[C^[[D^[[B instead of actually navigating the way I would expect when using bash.
