It's the sixth of September already, somehow. Summer finally feels as though it's at an end, with the temperature outside right now a chilly +9C°, and the overcast sky a slate pewter with a biting wind. This is my absolute favourite kind of weather—no worries of sunburn and heatstroke. Of course, this is merely temporary, as we're going to reach a sunny high of +23C° on Wednesday. A couple days ago I made stirfry, and I used red tomatoes, orange carrots, yellow squash and yellow beans, green squash and green beans and green celery, and some things that were basically white and brown. Too bad there's no food that's truly blue, and that I didn't have some purple cabbage as well.
Tomatoes, squashes, and hot peppers are all from someone's garden (not necessarily mine). Yellow beans from the local farmstand.

I did have to use town water for a couple of days, but then it rained a little and the rain barrel is back up to the quarter-full mark so we'll get another couple of days of rain barrel. Not much more rain in the forecast though.

We have a single-strand electric fence that runs around the bottom of our garden enclosure for the purpose of deterring chipmunks and squirrels and other small creatures which would either climb the fence or tunnel under it. Unfortunately, the grass grows around it, and one cannot mow too close to it. When a bit of grass grows enough to touch the strand, it gets zapped. I planted my garden this spring from seeds. I've got a nice big garden space in raised boxes that gets lots of sun. I decided to try to grow some zucchini.
I'm a bit of a hands-off gardener. I try to water regularly, but I also forget, or wait for the rain. It was hot and sticky, as predicted. It wouldn't have been any better the following day, we determined after living through today. The rain stayed away until the very last minute and we were able to chuck some things under the canopy and no damage was done to anything.

Truly, the garden is a chaos right now. As we all know, there have been multiple heatwaves and about five minutes of rain all summer. Which has affected the plants, obviously. But also my ability to be out in the garden.

My sun gold cherry tomatoes are seemingly going strong, I'm getting 20-30 per day for the past couple of weeks. But a week or so ago I noticed I didn't have any new flowers. So I fertilized them and gave them "trace minerals". So far, after a week, there still doesn't seem to be any new growth or flowers, and there seems to be more blighted leaves, which I've been removing, and then hoping to keep down by using neem oil.
