The first week back at work.
Happenings
So yeah, I started up back at work for the new school year. All the usual stuff to deal with. Updates to government policies to read. Leadership imploring all staff to do better. Chronic pain flares up with the stress. Still, I’m in a different classroom this year and it’s better than expected. My previous classroom had years (like, 10 years) of junk built up in old filing cabinets I never did get around to sorting out, so it was nice to come in to a relat…

We’re calling our trip off early because the back pain I’ve been experiencing turned out to be shingles. Happy it wasn’t my gallbladder or something. Here’s a few photos I managed to catch.

Hey There!
It's 66°F, Humidity 87%, Wind 9 mph NE, sunny
It's supposed to be a pretty pleasant weekend weather-wise. This morning is starting off right.
Yesterday was something of a mixed bag. After morning routine I went out for a walk, and took some pictures along the way, which is not my usual MO. I also ran into my friend and former colleague and his wife, who were doing some planting in the new Discovery Trail that was built in June. We chatted a bit, and I completed my walk.
When I got bac…

Have you noticed how when someone wants to lose weight, the first thing they do is start exercising? They may or may not have an exercise plan in place, but they are inspired to take some kind of physical action nonetheless, because to them, movement is progress. While it’s great to see others take action on their goals, what would actually help them is to pause and take note of what they are already doing that could be getting in the way of living a healthy life.
Look, you can do the “right thi…

Hey There!
It's 8:36 AM EDT, 72°F, Humidity 88%, Wind 6 mph S, sunny
We had a round of thunderstorms go through last night, and this morning is quite lovely, as the humidity has been reduced significantly. Looks like the weekend ahead is forecasted for very nice weather.
Yesterday was Colonoscopy Day. DW brought me to the hospital at 6:50 AM. The entire procedure about 3.5 hours. We were home by 10:30 AM. The doctor removed two polyps. Things look good.
It did take me some time to release the ai…

Hey There!

It's gonna be a short post today, as I've just come back from a morning colonoscopy. More on that tomorrow (like you really want to know!).
The reason for the short post is that yesterday was prep day. I spent the entire day at home taking it easy. I did put a charger on the motor home's coach battery to re-charge it, but other than that I vegged out on the couch passing the time with YouTube. I had to fast with a liq…

I did a lot of blogging in August due to Blaugust, and for some reason it also meant that I shouted to the void quite a lot. I mostly stuck to omg.lol's Status log, where people couldn't reply or react to what I posted. Sometimes, it was nice to just shout something into the void without getting an echo back. I did just discover that you could follow that feed via RSS, but that's probably old news to everyone else.

Here’s something I thought was important to tell everyone.
Earlier today I drove out for chemo infusion #21 (has it been three weeks already?), and as always I pulled up the Google Maps app to tell me how to get there, even though I know how to get there by now.
Quite quickly I noticed a change in Google Maps. Over the years I have come to think of the Google Maps navigation voice as the “Google Lady.”
Google Lady was gone, replaced by some imposter lady’s voice. A decidedly younger, extremely A…

Hey There!
It's 8:11 AM EDT, 76°F, Humidity 74%, W 11 mph SW, overcast
It's an unusual morning, as the humidity seems very high along with a fairly high morning temperature. And all this without sunshine. Today is the beginning of meteorological fall, and the weather already has a different flavor to it.
Yesterday I got an early start because I had to get to an audiology appointment two hours away in Son2's city. I kind of regret having made these appointments so far away, but so it goes. I did…

This post is my response to the 32-Bit Cafe "Back To School 2026" prompt:
"Make an educational/informative page (blog post, tutorial, etc) that about something that "everybody already knows". Believe it or not, not everyone knows about this thing or knows how to do this other thing. But _you_ know; why not share that knowledge?"

I can't spend too much time with you this morning, as I have to get on the road to get to an audiology appointment two hours away, and it looks like a rainy drive this morning. Gonna suck a bit.
Yesterday was a day where I had nothing particularly planned, but the weather made some decisions for me - no bike ride, and no sitting up on the campsite. The rain rather forced me into a sedentary day at home.
After my morning…

We had our beloved cat Iris euthanized after a long illness on May 1 of this year at the age of 19 and one half years. I’ve been remiss in terms of reporting on this fact for no good reason other than it hurt then and it continues to hurt now. But I felt it was only fair to say something about our loss of our beloved grey and white tabby girl since I so recently reported on a new addition to our household, Sapphire.
Iris’ history
We had Iris since January 2, 2007 when she was about 10 weeks old.…

Been a busy week, but it’s been a worthwhile one. First more poor GP who went a little pale when I told him I hadn’t been taking my metoprolol for a week. And I’m not going back on it. It’s been causing the hot sweats I’ve been trying to get rid of for YEARS now.
Then the next day, I had a PICC line inserted. It’s the fifth one I’ve had in a long line of…lines. Four Hickmanns and now five PICCs. My arm is currently bruised and itchy but it’s a small price to pay.

I've seen myself as transgender for about 4 years until at my film festival I bumped into a screening of A Sweetness from Nowhere (Polish title translation being uhh "a sudden flashing-through of sweetness") directed by Ester Bergsmark. I missed both the Q&A sessions, because I was still in Berlin and not at the festival yet, which sucks, but I'll manage.
The movie is a visually poetic exploration of (I'm sure I'm getting something wrong but it was a Saturday morning and I didn't sleep enough) t…

In my mind, I am not a responsible adult. In my mind, I think I’m still the same irresponsible, immature person I was as a wretched, awful teenager. It doesn’t hit me that in fact, I am a responsible adult until I’m deep into doing something responsible. Such as my plans the pat few days.
Last night, my plan was to go pay the mortgage after work. I did that, and bought a few groceries while I was there. It was payday, and I had this evening and my weekend plotted out already. Fast forward to ton…

Xavier Martinez, writing for The Wall Street Journal under the headline “Why the Drugmaker Behind a Pancreatic Cancer Breakthrough Stayed Independent” (paywalled; Apple News+ link):
Earlier this year, an oncology biotech with no drugs on the market—just promising research—was attracting takeover interest. Revolution Medicines stayed independent.
This week, that bet paid off.
The 12-year-old drugmaker, more commonly known as RevMed, had spent much of its existence trying to solve a scientific puz…

I won't lie, drinking that much for that long, I knew there was gonna to be some problems, but what else could I do? Problems now, or problems later...I'll take the deferred problems, please. Only, it finally caught up with me. Ever seen your skin turn yellow? That's some freaky shit. I've never been one…

I like learning new skills and starting projects. I regularly undertake such things with varying results. However, if they don’t work out that’s not a problem. You have to try something to see if you like it. I’ll add “within sensible parameters” as a caveat to the last statement. And it’s perfectly fine to discover that something isn’t for you. I like certain genres of video games, music, films and books. I am comfortable wearing certain types of clothes and not others. I’m picky about colours.…

Yesterday was sort of a busy day. I went through my morning routine, with the exception of a walk. I just didn't feel like it. I have to get back into that routine. It became a day of errands and technology.
The first thing I did was fill out yet another online set of questions and documents for my upcoming colonoscopy. It seems to me these days that you get far too many emails, texts, and other constant reminders of a…
