On a previous post I included a picture of Harlech Castle, from very far away on a very grey day, in the evening time. Well I’ve corrected the injustice that photo did for it here by visiting it.
Harlech Castle, while a ruin, is quite well preserved. You can walk around the entire perimeter of the walls and then go up three of the four towers to access the walls from above, and get a really nice view.
The outside perimeter of the walls.
The Chapel Tower (left), courtyard (centre, duh), and main…

High Violet
High Violet
The National

Anthony Conwright, in a guest essay for The New York Times Opinion section (gift link):
Rebranding rebellion is nothing new. Americans take it for granted that the war between the Confederate states and the Union was always called the Civil War, but it was not. During the war and in its aftermath, it was primarily called an “insurrection” or a “rebellion.” Its current name is a result of decades of lobbying by Confederate heritage groups and white Southerners committed to rejuvenating the South’…

I'm munching on shrimp chips as I write this. Both sushi restaurants I've been to serve these, while none of the ones I went to in LA did. This puffy variant doesn't read as Japanese to me, but I suppose when the menu lists pho and panang curry alongside its sushi and sashimi, there really aren't any boundaries.
Swedes like to ask me what I think of the Asian food here, and I'm never sure what to say. It's all good? The flavor's a little different, but I don't have the vocabulary to describe it.…

Well, this is embarrassing...
Remember when I complained about not being able to remember my login details for Wuthering Waves? I wrote a whole post about it under the (entirely intentionally) click-baity title "Wuthering Waves Is Dead To Me Now." Remember how, in that post, I said "I've tried everything and every account I can think of and nothing works"?
Yes. Well. About that...
It turns out either I didn't try every account after all or else my capacity for thinking is so diminished I probabl…

In 2026, I lost several people who mattered deeply to me. The year seemed determined to make a procession of loss. One was a dear friend who had blogged faithfully since 2009; returning to the form is my way of meeting them again in a place they loved and never quite left. So, here I am.
I suppose I should probably begin with the headline: I am London-bound for graduate school.
There was an image circulating on Bluesky of a woman delivering what I can only assume was a college lecture. Behind he…
