Our county is having an election for the district attorney, and there have been a couple of high-profile scandal-ridden cases recently which have caused the current DA to choose not to run for reelection. The Labor Party are now the conservatives. I've been sitting with this for a big chunk of the year, turning it over and over. I keep coming back to the same conclusion: the Australian Labor Party no longer represents working people in any meaningful sense. We went back to the bridge Friday and they were actually doing it. This time we had a nonpartisan PSA of "vote! Register by 8/22" I'm not sure if we also had "primary 9/1". Massachusetts has a very short time between the primary and the general for nonpresidential races.
Because we lean so heavily Democratic, the primary is almost the general for most races. Apparently we are possibly going to the "jungle primary" plan, which might actually be better because of this. For example we have 6 people…
