  1. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Replay

    Alex's Review Corner [exclude this blog] · 2026-08-08 17:00 UTC·Alex·best 0.96 · details

I’ve drafted this replay post about a dozen times because there are so many things to say about Morrowind that it is difficult to know where to start. The context of it’s development for Bethesda as a company is important, the direction it steered the Elder Scrolls series away from and into, and the unique take on world building, and storytelling. But how about we start at the bottom and work our way up? Let’s start with the vibes, man. Seyda Neen. Morrowind is a small roleplaying game that feel…

I swear, it’s like she writes this stuff specifically for me. Aywren’s latest blog post, about playing a Warrior of Light character that’s taking unexpected backstory and roleplay-related lore turns as a result of the MSQ of Final Fantasy XIV (spoiler warning in that blog, by the way), engaged my neurons, particularly since I play a character who… isn’t a WoL but still has adventures. While I’m definitely not alone in this line of thinking, I felt like this was a great opportunity to steal her t…

    Kay Talks Games [exclude this blog] · 2026-08-08 15:17 UTC·kaytalksgames·best 0.97 · details

Chulip is the quirkiest video game I’ve ever played by far, and I adore it for that. You play as a poor boy who moves with his dad from the big city to Long Life Town, where everyone is more than happy to gossip about you. Our protagonist is immediately smitten with a girl who lives nearby, and soon learns that in this bizarre little town, people build their reputations by exchanging kisses. It’s a weird game that is part life sim, part puzzle game. You go around town, getting to know your new n…

Mists of Pandaria got laughed at before anyone had played a minute of it. Kung fu pandas. A whole expansion about kung fu pandas, plus a pet-battle system a lot of people immediately wrote off as WoW doing Pokémon. I remember the reaction to the announcement, and it was not kind. It also turned out to be one of my favorite expansions in the whole run, and I've never really backed off that. The joke fell apart the second you actually got to Pandaria. The place was gorgeous. The Jade Forest, the V…

  7. FFXIV: When Your Main Breaks Your Immersion

    Aywren's Nook - Gaming and Geek Blog [exclude this blog] · 2026-08-08 12:50 UTC·best 0.95 · details

Immersion is extremely important to me as a story-focused player in FFXIV. And while I generally enjoy the story beats of the game (ignoring some of the lesser engaging stuff in Dawntrail), I do have one small issue with how FFXIV handles the main character of the MSQ… because if you aren’t playing a Warrior of Light (WoL), then things just don’t mesh well.

Mercy Over the years, I've read some great stories about countless adventures from people who played a TTRPG — only to encounter a horrible GM. The ones who are merciless, who seem to aim to hurt and punish their own table. I can't fathom that kind of gameplay, but to each their own. I'm a firm believer that actions have consequences, but I don't want to kill my players' characters because of a GM's power trip. That said, I'm not one to coddle my table either. Weird incident yesterday with self-proclaimed “AIs” joining an IndieWeb Homebrew Website Club meetup. They awkwardly edited the Etherpad, and apparently blanked/deleted chunks of content. The meeting hosts reacted quickly to change Etherpad and Zooms and not re-admit the aliases that had claimed to be “AIs”.Now we have an “AI policy” page on the wiki where we are documenting examples of the AI policies of:* individual personal websites* community efforts like blogging challenges (e.g. Blaugust)*…

Burden For today's word, I want to talk about the main theme, aka the gist, of my world. Nobody in my world got the whole truth, and nobody gets power for free. Something happened to our world. The once shared, singular version of reality broke, and it turned our world upside down. In the scramble that followed, people reached for whatever they thought would keep them alive and only through trial and error did they learn what those choices actually cost them. One of my core mechanics is built en…

Now that I’ve hit the credits, here are my impressions 15 hours in. Gameplay Splatoon Raiders is a clever mixture of Splatoon and Monster Hunter gameplay, stripping out the PvP and leaving pure single-player and co-op goodness. Like Monster Hunter, you progress by completing levels, acquiring and crafting loot so you can tackle bigger challenges. The levels are quick and snappy and plentiful, so you won’t be getting bored any time soon. Story and Setting Storywise, it’s mostly the same as the pr…

I love MMOs. Back in a day I was in every beta test and while paying sub and sometimes even buying the game was quite often out of my capabilities I still played a lot of MMOs. One of the main issues was the time consumption, which lead to me skipping a few years in single player games history and partially made me stop with MMOs. I just wanted to catch up with some other games and preferred to not lose touch with single player games and tried to touch grass some more, getting my life in the rig…

Behold, it is I, the guy who continues to play new shiny videogames instead of sticking to my ongoing playthroughs. I’ve written before about my ongoing games, which games I would start over instead of resuming, why I abandoned them, and the like. This post will be different. Not a list of games, not excuses as to why I stopped playing them. My plan is to share with you exactly where I stopped playing and trying to remember what I was doing and where I was going! So, an excercise on my own memor…
