  1. My blogging workflow 2026

I do not do any Phoneblogging. Zero. None. Zilch. The closest I get is reading my RSS reader and saving posts to a blog ideas list. As I get older, I just don't want to mess with my phone for in-depth things, and blogging, for me, qualifies as something in depth. I scroll Mastodon, I scroll my RSS reader, I get Home Assistant alerts, and I scroll Instagram reels for fun. That's pretty much the only things I use my phone for. Oh, I guess I use it to ask Rachelle questions when I'm grocery shoppin…

This painting is the result of a YouTube tutorial that I found, and I think it turned out pretty cute. I’m still trying to learn how to use my watercolours properly, and sometimes I don’t really have any creative ideas but I do still want to be creative. Following along with tutorials can scratch that itch, and teach me some neat techniques.

Questions belong to Ava’s Space Why did you make the blog in the first place? Because I wanted to share my thoughts somewhere. I lurked this site for some time before starting my own blog. People’s thoughts on the smaller internet and breaking away from large platforms resonated with me. I also remember finding a couple of artists discussing art topics on the feed, that inspired me the most. Why did you choose Bearblog? Because of the community! It feels sincere and is active daily. In light of Blaugust, I've been looking over some of my past posts here to get ideas, and I've realized that...I love this blog. Sometimes I get self-conscious about my writing here, like it's not very good or interesting enough for anyone to want to read. And it is largely personal, largely for myself to be able to look back on and reminisce about times gone by. And that's exactly what I've been doing lately, so I suppose it's serving its purpose well. I've always said that the point of this bl…

Wilhelm over at The Ancient Gaming Noob posted about the sad state of affairs at the modern incarnation of Electronic Arts. What EA has become over the past thirty years is both sad and despicable: they are often times more damaging to gaming and the industry than they are beneficial. And now the stage is set, as Wilhelm describes, for things to become much worse. Where EA is going now is clearly tragic: a lot of great developers and teams will be harmed in the impending bloodbath as the Saudis…

Well, 9:30pm on the water to be exact but it started getting dark and even with my torch I didn’t want to risk going down a hole. I didn’t get any night time pictures, but I did get an okay sunset. This was a little earlier, facing east, where I saw the clouds over the mountains that I thought might give way to some rain later in the night. Very dramatic and forboding. As things got darker, some lights caught my eye on the eastern shore. With my naked eye I couldn’t see what they were for, but m…

I read Coyote's Bubbles is a New Way of Recreating Old Problems which expresses so well why I am wary of this kind of thing. Not Bubbles specifically but the general mood. Which is that I try to stay away from anything that feels like a popularity contest. Pretty early on I removed upvotes from my blog. Because I don't need to know that. I brainstormed many of my post ideas in advance and I realized there's many of them that have to do with the radio. Here's a little one from when I was a teen. Talking in your Sleep by The Romantics One year for Christmas I asked for a boombox. I got a sleek round white boombox with a built in CD player. It was one of the best gifts I ever received. I would just lounge around and listen to the radio if I had nothing else going on. I actually didn't surf the dial as I had a regular station I like…

If there’s one game that perfectly encapsulates the rebellious spirit of the Dreamcast, it’s Jet Set Radio. It’s a colorful, high-octane game where you play as a gang of rollerblading graffiti artists tagging local landmarks to strike back at the cops, a mega-corporation and even the military. The premise is silly, but the gameplay is fun and the vibes are immaculate. JSR is a very Y2K-era game. The atmosphere is all about youthful rebellion, but wrapped in cheery optimism. Cataclysm is the expansion that took the world I'd spent a few years in and rearranged the furniture while I was out of the room. Deathwing came up through the middle of Azeroth and broke it, and Blizzard used that as the excuse to rebuild the entire old world. Every low-level zone I'd leveled through a dozen times was suddenly different. That was the whole pitch, and it landed as a strange mix of exciting and unsettling. I have complicated feelings about it, and I think most people who were aro…

I have spent just over a decade on Git Hub. I’m a hobbyist. Very little if anything I’ve had on there has been of benefit to anyone other than myself. Microsoft’s acquisition of GitHub in 2019 did not pass me by. I turned a blind eye. I think it’s fair to say my patronage is of no benefit to Microsoft. Since spring 2025 I’ve used Git Hub to host and publish my Hugo blog. I’m getting something for nothing. That sits well with me since it’s Microsoft. It still feels a bit off though since I’m the…

Burden For today's word, I want to talk about the main theme, aka the gist, of my world. Nobody in my world got the whole truth, and nobody gets power for free. Something happened to our world. The once shared, singular version of reality broke, and it turned our world upside down. In the scramble that followed, people reached for whatever they thought would keep them alive and only through trial and error did they learn what those choices actually cost them. One of my core mechanics is built en…

Now that I’ve hit the credits, here are my impressions 15 hours in. Gameplay Splatoon Raiders is a clever mixture of Splatoon and Monster Hunter gameplay, stripping out the PvP and leaving pure single-player and co-op goodness. Like Monster Hunter, you progress by completing levels, acquiring and crafting loot so you can tackle bigger challenges. The levels are quick and snappy and plentiful, so you won’t be getting bored any time soon. Story and Setting Storywise, it’s mostly the same as the pr…

Don't panic, not a long post. I visit my university city every couple of months because I like the scene (whimsy) and I visited again today to catch up with a friend who's moving away for a Masters in a couple months. I won't air out our gossip 'cause it's none ya1 but the topic of location came up, which is something I've written about before. I'm Thai in my blood but I never felt a strong tether to my home country, I grew up in a home town that's almost suffocating in how I will always be unde…

I love MMOs. Back in a day I was in every beta test and while paying sub and sometimes even buying the game was quite often out of my capabilities I still played a lot of MMOs. One of the main issues was the time consumption, which lead to me skipping a few years in single player games history and partially made me stop with MMOs. I just wanted to catch up with some other games and preferred to not lose touch with single player games and tried to touch grass some more, getting my life in the rig…
