  1. This is My Very First Blog

    Many Welps [exclude this blog] · 2026-08-05 01:52 UTC·Kluwes·best 0.98 · details

This here, what you’re reading right now, is my first blog. I don’t have much of a history of writing on the internet before I started Many Welps. As I said this weekend, I used to write for a now defunct comic book review site in 2014. That was my first experience writing on the internet, using WordPress, and publishing something I wrote to a wider audience. I wouldn’t classify it as blogging but it was quite fun. I was surprised they kept letting me write for them, honestly. They weren’t payin…

  2. Prompt #4 for #RPGaDay2026

    Gamers Esoteric [exclude this blog] · 2026-08-05 01:27 UTC·Cheshire·best 0.84 · details

Charm When I saw today's #RPGaDay2026 prompt was charm, I laughed, scratched my head, and sat here thinking about it. You see, I'm not a very charming person in real life. I'm a very forgettable person with the personality of a rock. This prompt gave me some thinking to do from a game developer's perspective. The longer I've worked on building my game, the more I've realized that charm and charisma aren't exactly the same thing, and that's an important distinction to make during game development…

  4. Looking back at Star Driver - Kagayaki no Takuto

Sometimes a piece of media comes along that makes you think “Gee, did they make this just for me?” and while the answer is obviously “NO”, for me personally Star Driver feels that way. It released back in 2010 and was created by Studio Bones, known at the time in the west in particular for Fullmetal Alchemist, Soul Eater and Ouran High School Host Club. The anime is a beautifully animated combination of mecha, song pieces and magical boy. Yup. Boy. The titular boy Takuto is the Ginga Bishounen (…

Speaking of changes and of Wholesome Games, I am always looking for ideas on what I can play with our daughter or what I can let her play on her own once in a while. She is not allowed to play anything with violence, anything that isn’t age-appropriate, or games with online interactions. It should also not be a game that uses predatory tactics to urge her to continue playing. Her favourite game right now is “Bluey – Let’s Play” (the free mini games, not the expensive monthly subscription). She l…

I've played every expansion since, and none of them ever quite got back to what Northrend felt like in 2009. Part of it was the setup. TBC pulled me in, but Wrath was the first expansion I got to walk into on day one, already max level, already ready, no old-world slog standing between me and the new stuff. In 2002, I started a sketch of a fictional Astronesian pidgin, reflecting a then emerging obsession of mine: conlangs that used all 26 Latin letters. I wouldn’t return to Pidanjinu until 2021-2022, working on it 15+ minutes a day, at which point it became the conlang that I am the most proud of: Muna Lingi. Here are its humble beginnings. There are a lot of missteps I took like taking risks on events based on their descriptions which ended up not being accurate (ex: a “LARP-lite” experience ended up just being a series of childish carnival…

BYOB前三个字母还挺好记:Bring your own……然后B是什么呢?我老是忘记。仔细一想,脑子里第一个冒出来的居然是Boisson(法语饮品)。其实应该是Beverage(英语饮品)吧。不过,怎么长这么像呢? 一查之下果然,Beverage源自古法语中的boivre,这个词在现在法语里就是boire(饮用)。 From Middle English beverage, from Old French beverage, variant of bevrage, from beivre (“to drink”), variant of boivre (“to drink”), from Latin bibō.

I might be nostalgic about going to the movies. That was one of the bonding activities I did with family and friends throughout my life. I only went once within the past few years. I just haven’t been able to bring myself to go since. There hasn’t been anything that I have wanted to buy a ticket for. I’m very aware of the releases of The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. And I’m hesitant about seeing both. I was not the target audience for Oppenheimer, and the MCU has been inconsistent for…

  44. I made a comic book for my D&D Group

I briefly mentioned this at the beginning of last month, but as I was cataloging my new D&D group's journeys, I started to get the idea that I could produce a kind of comic book. The goal wasn't to mass distribute it and sell it on shelves, but rather I just wanted to hand them out to these new friends I had made. It all started with a blog that I called Thotham's Journal. As most know, keeping notes and writing about your D&D character's adventures isn't anything new. I (and countless others) h…

By the start of August, I am absolutely desperate for autumn to show up. I’m one of those people who have a very small window of comfortable temperatures, and although I cope okay when it gets a lot colder, I do not thrive when it’s warmer. I know there’s a lot of people that love summer, but I will never be one of them. In 2024, I stumbled over this horror movie challenge from SpookySarahSays. While I really liked the idea, I felt like her rules were too restrictive for me to have fun with – mo…

What is Blaugust? I had a go last year. Surprised myself and posted something most days. I never gave much thought to what benefit it had beyond the satisfaction of seeing the list of posts I published in August grow. The “community” aspect of it passed me by. Making connections online can feel a bit clunky like I am simply going through the motions. Whether it does again this year remains to be seen. Just remembering now a book I read last year, “Sorry I’m late…. I didn’t want to come.” An auto…

This is the start of a new series on my blog that I tentatively call "hitting the digital brakes". If I come up with a better title, I'll change this header and the hashtag This is a picture I took on the road home today, with a Kodak Charmera. The Charmera is a tiny keychain camera that I bring with me when I use a small handbag. I love my tiny camera. There's no logic to the love for it, the camera has a very low resolution and it's so tiny it's kinda hard to take pictures with it using the sc…

This past week I few calls with some friends and, coming off those calls, was challenged to think about what I'm actually publishing. I have a lot of things I write about and do - I have half finished YouTube videos, courses, projects and apps - but I haven't pulled the trigger to publish very often recently. I wanted to think about some of the reasons for that. Invoicable work has taken priority I don't think this is a bad thing but it is a real thing. I have had a busy few months with client w…
