  1. LOTRO Announces Features of the Wolves of Mordor Expansion

But they didn’t actually announce the expansion itself, which seems odd. They have two posts up covering features of the upcoming Wolves of Mordor expansion, as well as having given MMORPG.com an exclusive interview about the features, but didn’t actually make any sort of fuss about “Oh, by the way, we’re going back to Mordor with the Wolves of Mordor” thing. Lord of the Rings Online Sure, they mentioned it, even gave a bit of insight, but it was absolutely not a full throated announcement of co…

  3. Seventeen Years of Blogging

    MMO Casual [exclude this blog] · 2026-08-03 15:00 UTC·Joar·best 0.89 · details

Seventeen years. Somewhere between twenty-one and seventy-seven posts a year, depending on how much life was in the way. It works out to more than six hundred posts about a video game and the guy playing it, written under a name that isn't mine, for an audience some years I could count on two hands. When people find out, they ask why anyone keeps a blog going that long with numbers like that. Fair question. Here's the honest answer. I kept going because I never made it a job. The second a blog t…

I don't know if I will be able to keep this up all month, but really getting started is the difficult part (for me. And everyone else with bad executive functioning.) I don't really know what to put here, it's barely been 24 hours since the last post. Today, I was struggling with executive functioning a little bit more than I usually do. I went to office in h…

As in the actor, yes. It almost seems like a dream to me. Now here I am, waiting to watch the new Spider-Man movie. I can’t believe I have followed the guy’s different films for a decade now. Way back in 2018, I was going to smaller Comic Con events, I somehow got lucky and managed to travel for it twice. First I went to Glendale, AZ. Then Seattle, WA later in the year. In a previous video I where talked about social anxiety in FFXIV, one of the top responses I heard was that folks wanted to roleplay, but either didn’t know how to start or were too afraid to try it. I pulled together a number of tips based on my own experience, and suggestions of others in the RP community, to make this follow-up video.

These days, my primary "third place" is my local game store (LGS). For those unfamiliar, an LGS is a small independent retailer of physical gaming merchandise that can include board games, card games, tabletop games, and role-playing games. Not every LGS serves all of these categories of gaming in great depth, but most will carry at least a few product lines of all of the major brands in each space. If you’re not familiar, they’re small gaming devices, typically running Linux or Android, that are designed to play old games from an SD card. It’s a pretty crazy market — there are several Chinese companies churning out multiple new models each year, and usually when you buy one it comes with thousands of games pre-loaded, which these Chinese companies obvious…

I had a good thing going. I was blogging regularly – weekly in fact. My goal was a post every Tuesday. I’d start working on the post end of the week, refine it over the weekend, and push it live Tuesday morning. Each post was about something I was working on or thinking about. They tended to be researched and developed, with something of substance to say. Except it was such a heavyweight and burdensome process, with such high expectations, eventually it all fell apart. I've been wanting to redesign my website for some time. The turn-key 11ty "starter blog" I was using before was probably perfectly editable, but who wants to try and understand someone else's mistakes when you can start from scratch and make all of your own mistakes! At the same time, ever since I stopped streaming[1] (which was fun in its own right but was mainly to support podcasting) I've been missing the design-y aspect of streamer layouts. Prompt: Yep, next. Letter 14 – Enough is as Good as a Feast GPT-4o said: Letter 14 Enough Is as Good as a Feast Dear You, You’ve probably been taught to aim for abundance. More options. More status. More snacks. More zeros in the bank account, more rooms in the house, more likes, more speed, more hustle, more everything. But let me slip a spoonful of ancient wisdom onto your plate: Enough is as good as a feast. Maybe even better. A feast is loud. Grand. Impressive. A spectacle of plenty that mak…

It’s that time of year again and I am making another run at Blaugust. Maybe 2026 will be the year I get back into regular posting, maybe not, but at least I am giving it the ole’ college try. Anyone looking to get in on the action should head over to the Blaugust 2026 Official Announcement page and then on to the Blaugust 2026 Signup page. Actually, now that I see the signup page, I realize I am posting this without having signed up yet myself. I better get to that! Anyway, as with last year’s B…

I’ve been muddling through ways to stay interesting – to myself and friends – in the age of AI. Part of the answer, I have come to understand, is the construction of Thickets. Dreaming up such a thing without a way to traverse it kept the idea incomplete. One nagging thought was that it was important to get properly lost – as opposed to trivially lost. That feeling where you had a good sense of where you were, but a question you asked or a connection you made has left you in unfamiliar territory…

Andreas from 82Mhz just published he is joining #Blaugust 2026. I remember I joined in 2024 and it was a fun way to keep blogging. I had an introduction post back then, and although most of it is still current, I will do a quick update here: I still work in construction as an estimator, and I am now considered a senior estimator in my team. I still love reading, and it is my main hobby, as attested by the posts on this blog. I am very much a sci-fi and fantasy reader, but I’ve been distancing my…

My only significant motorcycle road trip of 2026 was taken on May 9th through May 14th. The trip was planned as an opportunity to visit familly in and around Chilliwack and to familiarize myself with longer distance riding for the year. As luck would have it, the ride did not go quite as planned. I did get a good visit with several members of my family which was great. But some things happened which, along with changes in my mental state and general health, led me to cancel other, longer journey…

Happy start of Blaugust! I don't know why I signed up for this. It's not like I don't have a billion other things going on right now, and I usually don't sign up unless I'm dead set on posting EVERY FREAKIN' DAY. That may be different this year. We shall see. For today, I don't know, just thought I'd talk a bit of real life. I posted to my friends on Facebook a couple days ago, just a random goofy video. "I've been watching a lot of Mullet Review lately, and when my co-worker magically found a c…
