I love coffee! I'm not sure if I'd call myself a coffee snob but I'm sure other people might haha. I recently stumbled on this coffee questionnaire via James Zhan and Syl's Blog and I can't resist a questionnaire! How many cups of coffee per day? Usually two cups per day (500ml/~16oz). This question got me into a tangent/rabbit hole about the measurement of coffee as technically I brew 1 pot of a 4-cup coffee maker... but those are pretty small mugs of coffee (it is NOT 1L of coffee). It is kind of wild how much that measurement has increased where one entire pot is reasonable for me. I bring it to work in a thermos and pour it out into two portions into a mug that I keep at my desk, which I've found helps to scratch the itch I get mid-late morning of wanting another coffee (then getting it and not finishing it and regretting spending 4-6$ at the cafe). When do you drink coffee? Every day in the morning. Work days, at my desk. At home I have it with my breakfast/just after breakfast. I avoid coffee after noon (or opt for decaf) as I notice it makes me feel jittery or unwell if I have it too late in the day (or too much caffeine). How do you take your coffee? These days I take it black. For many, many years I took it with a splash of milk. (I learned to not say yes to room for milk when ordering coffee cause then they leave SO much space.) But recently the dance of making sure I had some milk with me at work became too much and I decided to try black coffee again. In either case, I do like to taste the flavour of the coffee itself, not to mask it with too much cream and sugar. Do you like coffee-flavored foods? Yes, but I'm not necessarily going out of my way to get them. What kind of food do you like to have with coffee? I don't necessarily have a go-to pairing. Often breakfast food or pastries as I'm a morning coffee drinker. Do you have a favorite coffee mug? Oh yes! My favourite is definitely my cat mug that I got at a market in Calgary about 10 years ago. The handle is a tail!! I love all my mugs for different reasons. After moving several times, I really prioritize keeping mugs that have that have specific sentimentality to me. That turns out to be still a fair number of mugs. I made a little downpour game about my mugs, so have a look at part of my collection here! Why coffee? I think it's a combination of my dad & I just really enjoy its taste & smell. My dad is an avid coffee drinker. You could set your watch to his coffee times. 10 am and 3 pm every day for as long as I could remember. I find waking up in the morning to the smell of coffee is very comforting. And growing up in a very cold place, it's nice to have something warm to drink. But there's definitely more than just the routine of how I was raised because my brother is not as much of an avid coffee drinker compared to me (I think their coffee maker has a place in the cupboard instead of on the counter). I enjoy the ritual of having coffee. I like exploring local coffee shops, something I did extensively while in graduate school when I wasn't tied to a desk and needed to get a lot of writing done. I remember drinking tea as a teenager, but I can't remember when I swapped over to coffee. Perhaps once I started university? I've never relied on it for the caffeine kick the way other people talk about it, but I do notice a headache sometimes if I skip my morning coffee. I'm not one to be going on about how I need more caffeine to get through the day. If the only coffee available is instant coffee, I'll probably pass. My Coffee Equipment Betty Crocker 4 Cup Drip coffee maker Melitta #2 bamboo coffee filters Cuisinart Electric Burr Coffee Grinder Aeropress Milk Frother Melitta Pour-Over Brewing Cone I use the first three for daily coffee brewing. I buy whole beans and grind them myself - this coffee grinder was a Christmas gift a few years ago and I love it! My old grinder was very hard to clean and only let you grind a small amount of beans at a time. I get that's best when it comes to freshness, but it wasn't practical for me. Usually I make enough grounds to last me just under a week or so. My coworker gifted me her Aeropress recently as she wasn't using it so this is a relatively new coffee tool. I haven't used it a lot, and I admit that I really don't get the hype. It is quite a lot of steps for making coffee and it wasn't as life-changing as I expected so I don't use it daily. I prefer brewing a whole pot to bring to work and this isn't as feasible. BUT it has it's great uses. Specifically it's great to make lattes. I can get the coffee in a perfect concentration that it blends great with the milk and it tastes AMAZING, in a way I've never achieved with drip coffee (even trying to brew it more concentrated). I also like making iced coffee with it. I'll keep playing around with it. The pour over brewing cone is how I make coffee when we go camping. It's nice and simple and not a lot of bulk to pack when we're travelling. I don't use it much at all to brew at home. My Top 3 Coffee Orders Dark Roast Cafe Misto* Decaf Iced Americano (summer only) Latte (plain or a seasonal flavour depending on my mood (ex. pumpkin spice**, chestnut praline, eggnog)) *It's kind of funny how this came to be my go-to coffee order. It started with wanting a coffee drink with frothed milk, but not wanting to pay the extra few $ for an espresso based drink. When I discovered a cafe misto/cafe au lait was a thing you could order, I was thrilled! I've been making this myself all along at home and turns out it has a name! And back in the day, you used to be able to use your stars to get a cafe misto at Starbucks for 50 stars (the same price as a regular coffee-based order, much cheaper than espresso drinks). This became my regular pick as I went there more often than I care to admit. I prefer dark roast coffee in general, I really dislike light roasts so when there's an option available I'll opt for dark roast beans. **Once upon a time, I was very into the classic Starbucks PSL. My birthday is in September, and so it was tradition for me to get it as my free drink every year for my birthday. It marked the transition into fall. Back to school, the weather cooling off, the trees changing colours. As I've gotten older, I've grown less and less attached to the PSL. One year it was way too hot to get a hot coffee on my birthday, so I opted for the iced version and it just wans't the same. Now it tastes too sweet and just doesn't hit the same way to me. I've instead opted to make my own at home or go to other coffee shops for their version if I'm craving one. I had a lot of fun filling this out. What was particularly fun is all the stories I ended up sharing as a result of this post. If you made it this far, thanks for reading fellow coffee-lover. 2/100 reply by email
