Poise
This word brings a fun topic to today's post. Poise deals with balance and equilibrium. As a game developer, this is one of the biggest focal points for my TTRPG — and honestly, for just about everything I do in general.
Technically I could roll straight out of yesterday's post about stature, since I was already dabbling into playtester classes there. But I won't. Instead I want to talk about how I'm approaching the whole balancing-abilities-without-breaking-things problem. Especially sinc…

When the events I share on my weeknotes are few and far between, it’s often because I wrote a lot of posts already talking about stuff that was interesting to me during the week, so, yeah it happens sometimes! In any case, this is some of the other stuff that happened between July 28 and August 3, 2026!
📅 In case you missed it, I joined Blaugust for 2026, a month long event where the point is to write and participate as much as you want! Of coures, I’m going for the full 31 posts, though there a…

Woah. I only just experienced Path of Fire within the past year or 2, despite it being out for almost 9 years now. But it’s new to me and I played it, so that’s something.
Yesterday’s post was a stark reminder to me that, yes, I’ve been blogging on this site now for 14 years. 14 years! Over that time I’ve had a ton of changes in my life from jobs to cars to kids to my hair turning grey and yet here I still am. Tapping away into the void. It’s pretty obvious I’ve become more jaded over the years,…

I joined Blaugust this year again. This site was mainly a blog before, so I'm giving it a new go this year with a fresh look.
This year will be a bit slower, as I am more than often pretty beat and tired; Europe is undergoing one of the worst heatwaves I've ever witnessed: Hot temperatures above 35°C all day, reaching highs like 40°C and not really cooling down during the night... a rather unpleasant unexperience.
That said, I will shortly present what you can expect on this blog, and some curre…

Today’s post is part of the Blaugust 2026 Group project, which features a series of writing prompts set for specific dates throughout the month. The idea being that everyone who wishes to participate can write about the same subject, riff off each other’s posts and enjoy a shared experience. In many respect having a common writing prompt levels the playing field and provides a sense of common purpose among those who take part. Today’s group project prompt asks the question “tell us all about you…

This was originally a recipe that I grabbed off the internet, so long ago that I don’t even remember where. It’s had a few modifications over time however and is now perfectly delicious. I present it to you here.
Ingredients
1kg of chicken breast (or thigh if you prefer the flavour)
500g of plain yogurt
Curry powder (I like to use Keens)
One large brown onion or two medium onions, roughly diced
One large capsicum or two medium, cut into small pieces
A jar of minced garlic
A jar of minced ginger…

You need to be a certain kind of beast to tackle the likes of NaNoRenO, Art Fight, game jams, even the 1 (sometimes themed) song of the day Instagram stories, and actually have a consistent portfolio to show for it-- I AM NOT that kind of beast. God knows I want it so bad. That routine. AH. DAMMIT. But hey, yeah, that's fine. I actually am just going to keep joining these repetitive challenges until it sticks because if there's something I love irregardless of the result, it's answering to a pro…

I find myself creating this false dichotomy when it comes to where to post - should I put this on my blog or on my website?
For example, yesterday's coffee post. I could make that a blog post. But I also sort of want to make a page on my website all about coffee, because I love it so much and that sounds fun. Also, eventually that blog post will become buried and I like when I'm visiting other people's websites and they've got different pages showcasing things that they like.
Well, why not both?…

A Library Without Walls
My grandfather's library
I grew up among books. Both of my parents are avid readers. My sister is a book lover too. When she has time, she posts amazing articles about books and book series on plenty of different topics. It's easy for her: she reads at an incredible speed. Her blog, Katherine's Bookstore is in Hungarian, but even with a browser's translation, it's a treasure trove.
My maternal grandfather’s library always fascinated me. It was a space where every part of…

Me and my SFF PC that travelled a lot in past 3 years
A bit late, but a very important post – introducing myself. I actually lost the “About me” page in the Backupocalypse that I mentioned before, so there’s no official introduction of me outside of a little paragraph in my Twitch channel description I guess. Will return that page with “official” introduction at some point, but today is a bit free format one, because I feel like it’s not going to be the first time introducing myself during annua…

In my last post, I mentioned that I prefer playing Wholesome Games nowadays. I am aware that there is no one definition for what a Wholesome Game is.
I mostly use this term for games that give me a cozy comfortable feeling with no stress, which means usually no time limits. What I also love is games that do not focus on violence. Or one of my personal pet peeves: Solving any and all issues with violence.
What I also like is not having to interact with others. Which means that I usually do not pl…

So, I wasn't fully tuned in to this Everquest Legends release that happened just a few days ago. I mean, I saw the e-mail from Daybreak and skimmed a few blogposts (enough to know Tipa was playing). I even logged on to Twitch and watched several streamers play for about 20 minutes. I hate to admit this, but watching the Twitch streams bored me enough that I thought I wouldn't play the game (it just wasn't that exciting to watch despite the personalities). I'm blaming Tipa. Talking to her over Di…

I literally have scores of blog posts about my film podcasting adventures that I’ve yet to publish. For nearly two years now, I have been co-hosting the Family Pictures Podcast, and we’re closing fast on 80 episodes. This spring I started a second podcast, Couch to 4K, with Mike Caulfield. It’s like watching and talking about movies is my new day job, and I love it. The only issue is I’m not feeding nearly enough of that back into the bavablog, and that pains me to no end. Somehow I feel that if…

I almost exclusively phoneblog. If I'm on my laptop or tablet when the mood strikes me to write then I will but I don't wait until then, or get them out deliberately.
I've written CSS on my phone and worked on my theme. I've researched, written, formatted, linked, and published so many posts entirely on…

The original Tomb Raider feels like a grand adventure. It’s an atmospheric game that puts you in the shoes of globe-trotting thrill-seeker Lara Croft as she searches for an ancient artifact. You’ll face all kinds of foes ranging from dinosaurs to rival treasure hunters as you climb, jump and swim your way around long-abandoned ruins.
What really makes it such a memorable game is how moody it is. Many areas are large and surprisingly quiet, with only the ambient sounds of dripping water accompany…

In the southwestern USA, with its cacti, mountains, and deserts, there are certain stereotypical animals that everyone knows: the coyote howling at the moon, the scorpion scuttling on the sand, the roadrunner crossing the highway, the rattlesnake coiling up into a strike pose.
But what many people don't know is that this region is a biodiversity hotspot, meaning it has more plant and animal species than surrounding regions. The southwestern deserts have some of the most bee specie…

Seventeen years. Somewhere between twenty-one and seventy-seven posts a year, depending on how much life was in the way. It works out to more than six hundred posts about a video game and the guy playing it, written under a name that isn't mine, for an audience some years I could count on two hands.
When people find out, they ask why anyone keeps a blog going that long with numbers like that. Fair question. Here's the honest answer.
I kept going because I never made it a job. The second a blog t…

I’m not really sure how this is going to look on my site since I just updated a bunch of plugins, my theme, and actually even wordpress to their latest versions. This took a while so I ran out of the time I had set aside for ‘being creative’ today, and I still have not gotten my theme built back up the way I want it. I forgot how much of a pain this could be.

Letter 14
Enough Is as Good as a Feast
Dear You,
You’ve probably been taught to aim for abundance.
More options. More status. More snacks.
More zeros in the bank account, more rooms in the house, more likes, more speed, more hustle, more everything.
But let me slip a spoonful of ancient wisdom onto your plate:
Enough is as good as a feast.
Maybe even better.
A feast is loud. Grand. Impressive.
A spectacle of plenty that mak…

It’s that time of year again and I am making another run at Blaugust. Maybe 2026 will be the year I get back into regular posting, maybe not, but at least I am giving it the ole’ college try.

Happy start of Blaugust! I don't know why I signed up for this. It's not like I don't have a billion other things going on right now, and I usually don't sign up unless I'm dead set on posting EVERY FREAKIN' DAY. That may be different this year. We shall see.
For today, I don't know, just thought I'd talk a bit of real life. I posted to my friends on Facebook a couple days ago, just a random goofy video.
