My word I'm having so much fun delving into the newest incarnation of EverQuest. Yesterday I advanced myself to level 16 and explored a bunch of old zones that I really just kind of ignored before . . . because I could. When I started, I was a high elf locked in the whole Greater Faydark area and grew up being lost in that whole area over there. Now I'm playing as an Iksar in the Deserts of Ro in some strange zone called New Sebilis. WHAT? That zone isn't listed in my EverQuest Atlas: The Maps o…

This is my response per the August 4th Group project prompt from Krikket => https://nerdgirlthoughts.game.blog/2026/07/23/blaugust-2026-calendar-weekly-prompts-group-projects/ Arguably you are looking at my first blog: (Ubergeek) Kelly’s World, first introduced in April of 2003. I’ve talked about my blogging history in previous Blaugust events, but this time I’ll try to aim a bit more specifically at the when and what of things. There is a sentiment that some “light” usages of AI are okay because it simply reduces the friction a bit on content creation. For example, Kelly writes: But if AI can be helpful for things like blog production. I know, for example, that blog posts with an image are several times more likely to attract someone’s attention than one without an image. I lack time and artistic skill to create my own images, but I can craft a prompt and get a suitable illustration in seconds. This is hard to ignore,…

I can't say I had any plans to do the Community Builder thing for Blaugust this year. The very fact that I'm calling it "the Community Builder thing" suggests a distinct lack of empathy with the concept. I'm not a great one for achievements or badges or titles, although I do quite like a title in a game. I'm not that struck on socializing either although I'd say I was social enough. Emphasis on "enough". Just enough. Not more. One thing I do like, though, is talking about myself. And another is…

When she has time, she posts amazing articles about books and book series on plenty of different topics. It's easy for her: she reads at an incredible speed. Her blog, Katherine's Bookstore is in Hungarian, but even with a browser's translation, it's a treasure trove. My maternal grandfather’s library always fascinated me. This sounds like a problem more people might have yes? Yep, and to fix that Jan Lehnardt built Searchtodon. But there was a strong backlash. It might have been bad timing, as it was around the time of one of the mass migrations from twitter to the fediverse and people felt their old ways of doing things were threatened. Whatever t…

Python A-Z is a blog series about Python. Each day, I share insights, ideas and examples for different parts of Python development that match with the letter of the day. Blaugust is an annual blogging festival in August where the goal is to write a blog post every day of the month. Python is often described as having batteries included The Python source distribution has long maintained the philosophy of “batteries included” – having a rich and versatile standard library which is immediately avai…

Earlier this week at the AIDS 2026 conference in Rio de Janeiro, the State Department showed a map of Africa with six countries highlighted. Each country was identified incorrectly along with the funding amounts. Reuters suggested it was created with OpenAI tools; the State Department took “full responsibility” and blamed a “team member.” At least, … Continue reading Basic Geography →
