Hello again. It's your boy Mike here, blogging about blogging (glances at Wouter). Today, I'd like to explore the topic of making my blog posts more durable.
I recently completed importing a backup of some of my old blog posts. These posts were from 2012 - 2019 and required a fair bit of editing because I was using embeds from other sites, some of which have since been purchased and shut down.
Here are my lessons learned, focusing on my posts only and not the hosting problem of keeping a site on…

Today is Summer, make summer art today
Well, this week Glasgow is back to dreich rainy days, so instead of heading outside with my camera I searched my Flickr archives for a sunny image and chose this one:

I love fountain pens. For a few years now I’ve started collecting a handful of cheaper pens to experiment with and figure out what sort of nib I enjoyed. I’ve got a few EF (extra fine), some M (medium) and some F (fine). I learned there’s a difference between EF in the East, and EF in the West, depending on manufacturers. I don’t own a broad nib yet, but that is on my list. None of my pens are particularly expensive, minus the one that I inherited from my MIL when she passed. From front left to…

Week 1 of Blaugust is themed as the “Welcome to Blaugust” week – but arguably, I’ve already covered the literal facts of the event, and my reasons for taking part, in my prior Week #0 post. However, I don’t want to divert too far from the main theme, so I’ve instead decided to answer a larger question, which is: why do I write? I started writing consistently on this site more than half a decade ago, and it’s fair to say that lots has changed in the meantime. I’ve been formulating and thinking ab…

Morning!
It’s another very early morning and an unusually busy day for me.
I have a dental cleaning appointment this morning, so I have to hop to it and get ready for that. (For me, that means being ready hours early and then fretting about remembering to bring everything I’m supposed to and getting there at exactly the right time.)
Afterward, a friend is coming by with a truck to help throw out an old mattress and sofa that won’t fit in my SUV. It’s an old memory foam mattress, so it’s huge, he…

The Minerva of Babel has Castor and Pollux. “The author of Intermythic English has twins.”
Yama and Nar can ahura mazda new Sarasvatis for Babel. “You and I can create new words for Intermythic English.”

For the past couple of years I've seen the concept several times: punch needling. I didn't think much of it, I preferred to crochet and knit, and I didn't need another hobby.
Then I saw a cute coaster kit the other day, and I had to get it. The advantage was that the kit came with all the materials, including a punch needle.
I fell in love with punch needling the moment I figured it out, and each coaster better than the one before.
I bought some cheese cloth, and some new embroidery rings. I use…

I use a feed reader. There are many free and paid options available. I currently use NewsBlur, which is great, though I am considering migrating to something cheaper and more basic. Here is the music score for what you just heard:

Why bother having a blog if you’re not going to do the writing yourself? The entire point of blogging is to express yourself. That doesn’t happen if Chatty Jeeps does the work for you.

Yesterday I moved my blog to Hugo and, despite my rigorous testing locally and in a staging deployment, I broke my RSS feed in production. Perfect. 🤦♂️
The issue was that the Hugo baseURL setting wasn’t being applied properly, so all the post links were pointing at localhost. The scrappy, I’m-in-the-middle-of-dinner fix was to set it manually:

But today I hope to figure out why the baseURL setting in hugo.toml setting wasn’t taking effect.

My childhood friend Eric lived in a yellow house at the end of a cul-de-sac. We spent our summers and after-school evenings playing video games (SNES, later N64), ping pong, and street hocky. I agree, AI words, images and video are extremely unsettling (to me). It's everything but human created. In fact the most non-human thing anyTHING (in this case, a computer) can generate.
It's like a fever dream. Or some well-detailed hallucination. The words I've read/heard from AI (via people using AI to narrate YouTube videos) has “enough” human-like mannerisms and gestures, but that makes it that much more perverse. I d…

When I saw today's #RPGaDay2026 prompt was charm, I laughed, scratched my head, and sat here thinking about it. You see, I'm not a very charming person in real life. I'm a very forgettable person with the personality of a rock. This prompt gave me some thinking to do from a game developer's perspective.
The longer I've worked on building my game, the more I've realized that charm and charisma aren't exactly the same thing, and that's an important distinction to make during game development…

I am just not having a winner week. I started a new med in Sunday and have landed very firmly in the nausea side effects. This drug is akin to a GLP-1 so it's probab,y the effects on digestion + some of these act by slowing down how quickly you digest which can lead to food fermenting. Which makes you gassy.
So I am gassy and uncomfortable. Really hope this subsides. So here's is today's drawing. Straight lines are hard. I do not have a steady hand.

Most democratic parties are built around an underlying ideology that drives not just their appeal, but the principles guiding their decisions. Conservative politics is, at its core, about conserving the status quo – slowing change, maintaining what exists, keeping control of the conditions. That's a coherent position. Labour movements emerged as a direct counterweight, built around workers' rights at a time when labour had been so devalued it amounted to exploitation on a massive scale. They pla…
