Answering song title questions 2 In which I mine my music collection for inspiration, and decide to have fun answering questions posed by song titles. Where is my mind? Asked by the Pixes, on Surfer Rosa It's wandering, mostly. And by wandering, I mean it's traveling with no particular destination in mind, which is what I'd like physically be doing as well. I can tell you where my mind isn't: it's not on money, it's not on work, it's rarely on tech, and it's not even really on movies or video games these days, either. I'm actually really proud of the fact that my consumption of passive entertainment is at the lowest level it's been at in years. Yay me, I guess? I'm reading a lot, and thinking about what I've read, and writing a lot and thinking about what I've written. I'm still engaging heavily with music, and I'm anticipating some future creative projects where reading, writing, and music intersect. Can I kick it? I manage to be a pretty chill and relaxed person most of the time, but my success at "kicking it" in a social situation can be highly variable. Small group? Sure. Large group? Probably not. Crowd? Not a chance. How much is enough? Asked by Bad Religion, on Suffer I like this question, because the answer isn't always clear. Having Not Enough can certainly be a big problem, depending on context, but having Too Much can also present certain challenges. Enough is a good goal, and learning to recognize what Enough looks like is the first step towards realizing that one doesn't really need more than that. I will say that in some areas of my life, I have recently scaled back from Too Much to something closer to Just Enough, and it's been immensely satisfying and rather liberating. How's My Drinking? Asked by Guided By Voices, on Isolation Drills Actually, it's great, and thank you for asking. I've had the good fortune to never really walk too far down that path, even during the college years. This, despite drinking being one of the things "my people" are known for. At this point in my life, the only alcohol kept in the house is for cooking. I don't have any particular problem with other people drinking, but as I've gotten better at listening to my body, I've just come to realize that it makes me feel icky and just isn't something I'm interested in, basically ever.
