Hey There! It's 8:39 AM CDT, 62°F, Humidity 77%, Wind 1 mph S, sunny, AQI 64 We had a fantastic day yesterday, celebrating Daughter's birthday in style. Because we are all heading out this morning, this will be a short post, with some details perhaps at another time. After we all got up and dressed, we went out for brunch at a small upscale breakfast place. Downtown Springfield is not as bad as the area we're in. It seems the south and west sides of town are better. After brunch we went to visit the Lincoln's Tomb National Historic Site. It's a pretty grand edifice, with an obelisk reaching to the sky, surrounded by Civil War scenes, and Lincoln in the middle holding out the Emancipation Proclamation. The tomb, along with his wife and three sons, is inside. For all its grandeur, it's actually a simple and small site to visit. We headed back to the AirBnb, where I took a nap for a bit. Then we headed out to the ballpark at about 5 PM. This time it was easier because there were less people. We had a much easier time getting to our seats, finding a path where DW did not have to climb stairs. Unfortunately a family with two small children sat down behind, and the little girl had a high-pitched voice that was a bit annoying, but for her it was natural. We ended up moving a couple of seats over, and that ended up working out OK. It was another good game, with the Boston Hunters beating the LA Queens 7-3. Against my will I had to root for Boston as the east coast team, while Daughter rooted for LA. I was surprised to see Boston win because they are the last place team at the moment. The good-natured back-and-forth bickering between Daughter and me apparently alarmed some woman sitting further up, because at the end of the game she asked Daughter as she was walking out the gate if "that man was harrassing you." When Daughter said I was her Dad, I think the woman was completely surprised. We had a good time with all the other people around us as well. I guess the only disappointment with the whole trip was not getting a baseball. The ladies don't foul off much. I had a delicious pork chop at the game, so that was dinner. Daughter shared her fried cheese curds. I had a beer, which was probably a mistake, as it made me pee too much overnight. I went to bed at about 10:30 PM after a pretty fantastic day!
