Welcome to Blaugust week 2, which conveniently just lands on these Saturday Weekly things. This one is much more akin to “normal activities” for these posts. I’ve pretty much recovered from last week’s illness issues, the worst part of all that is not feeling like, sick sick, but still feeling lethargic and tired. Because then it’s all just, being super aware of everything you’re not doing. Other than that not a lot of excitement. We got some quotes for replacing the roof, they were in the expected price range. I also have been contemplating some work related changes that I’m not going into here, but I’ve made a decision on the issue and it’s calmed out my anxiety about making the decision, which makes me feel pretty confident it’s the right decision. Something something the future is scary. Toys You know what I didn’t get. Like a LOT of others. The reissue Studio Series MTMTE Prowl. That I had pre ordered basically right as it was available. I got a “confirm the delayed ship” email, which are stupid anyway, I do not care about the day, just ship it when it comes, in a month, 3 months, whatever. I have had Hiya Toys pre orders extend for like 2 years before. Anyway, a short but later, it just got cancelled on their end. I was not the only one. Fucking. Bull. Shit. I really wanted that Prowl, my current Prowl is the old original Generations Prowl, which I like, but he isn’t super great. There have been surprisingly few “regular Prowl” updates. He had a cybertronian version but I want an Earthmode update. The original release on this mold was hard to get as well, packed in a two pack with Ironhide. But hey, maybe they will do the “battle damaged” one again…. ugh…please not. I stopped by a Wal-mart I don’t usually hit that day on the way home from work. They had those silly Swapticon sets on markdown to $3 (local one has them at like $5, too much). I decided to get the Terrorsaur/Laserbeak one for $3. Back in the toy aisle they had more options, and the tag said $2 instead of $3. So I also got the Megatron/Shockwave and Prime/Magnus sets. They both have neat little “alt modes”. Then later when opening them, Shockwave’s tread broke off. Like WTF, its a cube, how? I can glue it back on, the easy way will be to glue it on, the tricky was will be to glue it onto the peg, because technically the treads are supposed to rotate and become little legs for the “Transformation”. Also, it was like, $1, oh well, sucks but doesn’t suck. Side note, I was really tempted by the marked down ($18) Cybervwrse Skorponok, and while he looks super cool, I don’t really need a huge neon colored brick articulation Skorponok. I also came across these Armorsaurs Evolvers. I had seen someone posting about these a while back and they seemed neat. They didn’t have the Triceratops, which looks like the “coolest” one so I went for the Tyrannosaurus. Its neat. I might still get the Triceratops, but the plastic feels a little cheap and mine has at least one point where the mold isn’t coming together on the leg. The transformations is simple, but interesting, but also a bit clunky, though part of that may be the plastic. The dino has basically zero articulation, but it does result in a stable feeling car. I have positive but mixed feelings overall on the line, based on this experience. I don’t really know anything about the source material, its apparently a Disney show, based on a Korean Sentai show of some kind. There are also some smaller figures and some larger actual (not robots) dinosaurs with armor pieces. Anyway, I already did a full write up on it. Music It’s Bandcamp Friday, well, yesterday, so some new-ish to me music. Actually one wasn’t a Bandcamp purchase, because it wasn’t on Bandcamp. The first couple are a couple of singles. May5a – Valentine’s Day – This one was a random one on the local college radio I heard the other day. I was going to buy the 5 singles she has, but it turns out it’s not 5 singles, it’s 4 singles and an album. One of my petpeeves a bit with Bandcamp is how it has no proper way of handling singles vs albums, especially hen there is overlap. So i just went with the one song I know, and maybe I’ll go back for the album. It’s kind of a light airy sort of bedroom pop style that I tend to like. Killjay – I don’t Like computer Anymore – Kind of the opposite of the previous, I looked into the album, but decided I didn’t care for most of the other music there. It’s not bad music, just not my thing. This single is silly and about computers though, so I went ahead and just got the one song. Devin C Williams – Semi local guy, I’ve mentioned seeing him perform a few times, and finally went to just buy some of his songs. Well, all of the songs actually. It’s all listed as singles, but there is a “but discography” button that makes it essentially an album. Because like I said, Bandcamp is bad about that a bit. I’m not sure bout the studio tracks but when I’ve seen him perform he is a one man act with a foot drum and several different styles of exotic guitars. It’s all k blues music. FIZZ – The Secret to Life – This was the non Bandcamp one. It’s not on there, annoyingly. It’s not real easy to find it to buy digitally anywhere, but Amazon had it. This is that “super group” that Dodie, Orla Garland, Greta Isaac and Martin Luke Brown. I had kind of been sleeping on it when it was released, but finally pulled it into my rotation and really liked it on Spotify, then like a month later I cancelled Spotify. I’ve been meaning to just buy it for a while but I kept putting it off. It was super fun. Like goofy and dumb campy and knew it. As the saying goes, it understood the assignment. Reminded me a lot of Honor Among Thieves in terms of what made it good. The set and world almost felt a little too much like Midgard in the MCU, which was a little distracting. But they are kind of a similar overall concept. Would recommend. Lots of fun little Easter egg moments in there too. I also watched Flow, a movie with no dialog about a bunch of animals surviving a great flood. If you want to feel worried about a cat for 90 minutes straight, boy is this the film for you.
