My face hurts. Rather, I have a toothache, and the cluster headache I’ve had all week. Good thing those Tylenol I took wore off hours ago. That shooting pain up the left side of my head behind my eye is just great, don’t you know. It’s made looking at a screen all day for work an absolute joy. You know when it’s not hurt though? When I’ve been cooking, or during the apocalypse yesterday, I felt just fine doing those things. Or working on a puzzle while we had no internet last night. Aside from the unholy nightmare that puzzle is cut into, my eye didn’t hurt (for that reason) all evening. I need to go get my eyes checked out, actually use the insurance I’ve been paying for, accept that my eyesight really is that bad. Because I have to focus hard just for everything I see to not be incredibly fuzzy. Hard enough to where it probably does me no favors in regard to getting rid of this headache. And you know, not look like the angriest person on earth. I am not mad, I just look like this. I stare at screens all day, and it almost certainly does a lot of damage to my eyes, to my whole head in general. It might do some explaining as to why my neck is sore too. I strain my neck to look at my screens that are too high up, I strain my eyes looking at those screens, and my whole head is just a ball of “ouch”. There’s probably a lot of reconfiguring that’s going to happen soon with my desk. Probably sooner than later at that. I’m not enjoying this, by the way. Downing aspirin and covering my eye like I’m a pirate just so that my head isn’t screaming is not a fun time. It hurts, I’m irritable because it hurts, and it makes looking at screens on my own time a real pain. I have games to play, stuff to watch later, I don’t have time to feel like tearing my eye out of my head. I have five days off next week, I absolutely should get myself into an optometrist to get this checked out, before it becomes an even more aggravating ordeal. And I think I may just do that. I can drive just fine, it’s not bothering my vision, it just hurts from behind my left eye across to my left temple. And it might clear up by that time to where I won’t be hurting just trying to see. When I started at my job ten years ago, this started to come up, or at least something like it. I was in training for the first four months at my job, and I had these bad cluster headaches behind my left eye during the most intense parts of that training. Coincidentally, it was August then as well, so it may partially be the time of the year as well as the stress. Happy anniversary to me, I suppose. Anymore, they don’t happen often, but when they do, it’s rough. I used to have really bad migraines as a kid as well, and those would have me in bed, in total darkness and silence for days from how bad it hurt. Those cluster headaches are reminiscent of those migraines for me, except I’m not in actual tears from how bad these are. No, I’m just lying in bed with a t-shirt over my left eye while I write this, it’s a totally different thing. In short, this sucks. Get your eyes checked early and often, do not be me and wait until your head feels like it’s in a vice to get checked out. It’s another one of those maladies that seems to be hitting all at once the older I get. If it sucks this much when I’m still relatively young, my old age is going to kill me yet.
