This week’s weeknote will be shorter than usual—because I’m trying to write a lot more this month! Completed Passed my driving exam on my first go last week! 🎉 Really chuffed since the pass rate for first-timers is only around 30%. See One Take Pass for more. Managed to only write one reply for Robert’s JulyReply event, on the last day of July.1 It’s on media ownership: Can We Still Even Own Things Any More?. Writing more replies / responses is something I want to explore more in the future! Joined a few Discourse communities last week: 32-Bit Cafe — I have no clue why I’m only discovering this now; there are so many bloggers I follow that are there; not to mention discovering new ones! LinuxCommunity.io — Got a really nice welcome and Hayden (the admin) even featured my blog in the Saturday Showcase! Created some 88x31 badges: For Beto’s human.json project. I used GIMP and fonts used are: Born2bSporty FS by Haley Wakamatsu FontStruct Non-Commercial License) QuinqueFive by GGBOTNET (SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1.) Converted the existing badges I used for Robert’s three events to use bitmap / pixel fonts as the text was getting blurry when I converted the SVGs to WebP format (see them in my web badge collection at the bottom of the page). In Progress Here’s an update of my current writing/blogging events I’m taking part in: 100DaysToOffload: This weeknote will be post 77 / 100. Only 23 more posts (with a minimum 300 words; my own rules) and 161 days remaining! I’m getting more confident that I’ll be able to complete my first attempt—really excited to tell Kev when I do. Blaugust 2026: It was getting late in the evening of August 1st when I suddenly decided to take the plunge and join the long-running annual blogging event held every August. Read the note to learn what it’s about and how you could join too! My goal is to post at least 5 posts this month for the “Bronze Award”. Since there are no strict requirements for this event, I haven’t decided what counts as a valid entry yet—but at a minimum, I will only include content longer than 300 words and all post types are allowed, including this weeknote. Not sure if I am doing a theme for my Blaugust… as I was just going to post more than usual and catch up on half-baked drafts! Unlike how Juhis is doing Blaugust 2026 with a specific theme: Python A to Z. AuguStory: This will be the third consecutive monthly event by Robert! This one is relatively simple and involves writing a post about the story of your blog. I’ll be completing this challenge later this month. You Might Have Missed Haven’t written a blog post for two months! Been happily writing content in the more casual, shorter post type; notes. The latest blog is just me rambling about fixing dates in Hugo and Indiekit (a Node.js Micropub server). Think I forgot to mention it, but I added a vanilla JS switch on my /⁠tags and /⁠series page to switch from a “cloud view” to a plain list view. If a user has JS off, it’ll just be the cloud view option. I’m thinking of removing the “share to” group of buttons I created a long time ago and only keeping the “copy permalink” and Mastodon ones. What do you think? Do you use these types of button on websites or do you just copy the URL and share directly if something is worth sharing?
