Hey There! It's 7:28 AM CDT, 61°F, Humidity 86%, Wind 5 mph W, mostly sunny, AQI 43 Yesterday was a pretty sweet day! I got up and went through a somewhat abbreviated morning routine, making coffee, skimming news and emails, and writing my post. The rest of the crew - DW, Daughter and Friend - slowly came awake throughout the morning. We all had a little breakfast of whatever was around (bread, bagels, cream cheese, fruit), and spent the morning just chilling. I spent the morning mostly on my computer just sort of cruising the web while the women chatted. I tried to resolve a problem with my domain transfer, since I discovered you can't transfer a domain until you've owned it for 60 days. So I will have to wait until the end of September to initialize that again. I ended up writing a post for my public blog on my minimal use of AI, having read a couple of articles on how smaller AI models can work. I spent some time with my rotisserie team, looking for transaction options, and I also spent some time with Google Maps to see if there was another option for getting home. There is, but tolls are involved, and we have a reservation at the same motel we stayed at on the way in, so it may not be worth making any changes. During the morning my watch wasn't charging, and I thought somehow it had gone dead, so I spent a minute or two seeing what a replacement would cost. But ultimately it began to recharge. My watch had never gone so low so fast, and once it came back alive I checked the settings, where I found that WiFi was on and NFC was on, both of which I turned off immediately. Sometimes, when a watch OS updates, it turns items back on you don't want on. Pain in the ass. Around 1 PM we decided to have dinner in the afternoon and, if we were hungry, grab "lunch" at the game. So Daughter and I went to the stadium to ask a few questions and get some information, and then we went to a Puerto Rican food truck and ordered meals. Daughter was very impressed at my ability to order in Spanish. I don't think she's ever heard me speak Spanish before. We bought a few sides and extras (Jarrito sodas and plaintains) and headed back to the AirBnB to eat. The food was quite good. Not healthy so much, but good. After dinner, everyone went to lie down but me. I wasn't too tired. So I went ahead a bought an HP Stream computer from eBay for $54 which already has a Linux install, but I will put Mint XFCE on it. The site was a Goodwill site from the Piedmont area of SC, so the money went to support their work. I think it may become my couch computer. I couldn't resist the temptation for the money. It should arrive once we get back home. I also read a few Reddit posts on the latest in the WPBL. It's a great place to get news. We packed up and headed for the ballpark around 5 PM. Gates opened at 5:30, so I dropped off the women and parked the car. Once the line started moving we got in fast. It's a pretty old park, dating back to 1925, and the handicap access is not great. DW had a bit of a struggle getting into the seating area. She was unable to descend the stairs to the front row, so we copped some unused seats at the top of the section while Daughter and Friend watched the game from the front row. It was quite a good ball game! The impression of the game is quite different seeing it live rather than on the computer screen. This game had it all. The LA Queens took the initial lead 3-0, then tacked on another run to make it 4-0, but the NY Heights came back, chipping away at the lead until they toed the score in the 5th, only to see the Queens get the lead back in the 6th. But the Heights mounted another comeback and tied the score in the top of the 7th, and held the Queens down in their half to go to extra innings. The Heights then scored two runs in the top of the 8th to make it 8-6, and held the Queens to only one run in the bottom of the 8th, winning the game by a score of 8-7. Really fun baseball to watch! We all came home quite happy. Daughter told me she was the "happiest baseball girl alive." She is really enjoying herself. After a little snack I managed to get to bed by 11:05 PM. Today is Daughter's birthday, and we will be at the ballpark again this evening for another game. Pretty sure I'm scoring some major Dad points, even at this age.
